{"id":2384,"date":"2015-05-10T18:49:37","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T02:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.threadedviews.com\/blog\/?p=2384"},"modified":"2023-08-13T10:58:44","modified_gmt":"2023-08-13T18:58:44","slug":"near-and-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.threadedviews.com\/blog\/?p=2384","title":{"rendered":"Near and Far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/threadedviews.com\/main\/?page_id=794\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.threadedviews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Near-and-Far-small.jpg\" alt=\"Near and Far\" width=\"278\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.threadedviews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Near-and-Far-small.jpg 422w, http:\/\/www.threadedviews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Near-and-Far-small-226x300.jpg 226w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/a>3 x 4 inches, hand embroidery and some ribbon work on hand-painted silk.<\/p>\n<p>I poured on a wash of the sky color first, then painted the mysterious distant island (somewhere off the west coast of Canada) over the top of that. \u00a0The original source was a photo taken on a grim, cloudy day, but I manipulated the colors until it looked like a summer day with a heat haze. \u00a0I had some thread in hot blues I&#8217;d been itching to use.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;far&#8221; lighthouse is made from semi-transparent pieces of ribbon, hand-painted and glued very carefully to the background. \u00a0This is like trying to glue down a bunch of snowflakes and not my idea of a fun way to spend an hour, I have to say. \u00a0Then the headland is hand-stitched in various shades of regular sewing thread and in a much better temper.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;near&#8221; depth marker is made from normal-thickness ribbon, hand-painted and glued on. \u00a0There are a few stitches in there for details that were too fine to work in ribbon. \u00a0Then lots of hand-stitching in Sulky embroidery thread for the water.<\/p>\n<p>I hope it makes you feel summery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>3 x 4 inches, hand embroidery and some ribbon work on hand-painted silk.
